Departure
  1. Lower the engine into the water using the cutoff switch button.
  2. Ensure all members on board are seated properly.
  3. Make sure you have the quick-stop safety rope secured around your hand/wrist.
  4. Ensure the throttle lever is in the vertical position, meaning you are in neutral. Only then should you start the engine.
During the Trip
  1. The captain should always consider sea traffic, sea depth, and the presence of swimmers.
  2. Do not travel more than 2 nautical miles from the coast.
  3. Keep a safe distance from shores and swimmers. If you need to approach a coastline, reduce your speed to a minimum and restrict if the water is shallow. Always ask other members of the ship to check the waters when approaching the coastline.
  4. Before someone dives into the water, the captain must ensure the anchor is secured to the seabed and the engine is turned off.
  5. Maintain a course in channels and ports.
  6. Never move ahead of a moving vessel.
  7. Do not use the anchor in deep waters unless you can see the bottom. The rope you release, should be approximately three times the depth you see.
